Solana says Iran aims for reply to atomic offer soon
TEHRAN (Reuters) - European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana said after talks in Tehran on Saturday that Iranian officials hoped to give an answer soon to a nuclear incentives package offered by six major powers.
"It is an offer that is going to be considered (by Iran) and we are waiting for the answer that they hope will be soon," Solana told a news conference.
Solana said he hoped the offer from world powers, designed to coax Tehran into suspending sensitive nuclear work, would be a starting point for negotiations.
Iran has repeatedly ruled out halting nuclear enrichment, which can have both civilian and military uses, but says it is ready to engage in negotiations with world powers.
