WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush will travel to Louisiana on Wednesday to survey the damage from Hurricane Gustav, which raked the state with howling winds and torrential rains, the White House said on Tuesday.

Bush said earlier on Tuesday that initial assessments showed "encouraging signs" that the storm did not cause significant damage to energy operations in the Gulf of Mexico.
