Yushchenko: Russia statements humiliate Ukraine

KIEV (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said on Friday that recent statements by the Russian leadership during a gas dispute were aimed at humiliating Ukraine.

"Those statements that have in recent days been heard from the mouth of the Russian leadership -- they are incorrect, they humiliate Ukraine," Yushchenko said at a news briefing. He said such statements did not help foster friendly relations.

He also said Ukraine would allow monitors -- including Russians -- to inspect pipeline pressure. Yushchenko said he wanted the EU to install special monitoring devices on all the Russian gas pipeline entry points through Ukraine.
