WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush said Tuesday it was a little early to assess the damage Hurricane Gustav caused to energy operations, but there were some "encouraging signs."

"We're now in the process of assessing the damage done to the infrastructure," Bush told reporters before being briefed at the White House on the aftermath of the storm which came ashore in Louisiana on Monday.

"It's a little early right now to come up with a solid assessment," Bush said, but added, "there are some encouraging signs."
