FACTBOX: Security developments in Iraq

(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 4:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.

* denotes new or updated item.

BASRA - A roadside bomb exploded near a convoy carrying Iraqi generals in a Shi'ite militia stronghold in the southern city of Basra, but the officials were unhurt, one of the officers said. Major-General Mohammed al-Askari, spokesman for Iraq's Defence Ministry, said he was in a convoy with Basra's security chief, Lieutenant-General Mohan al-Firaiji, when the blast went off in the Hayaniya neighborhood.

* BAGHDAD - The government said it would lift the vehicle curfew on Kadhimiya on Thursday morning at 6:00 a.m. (5:00 a.m. EDT). Kadhimiya is one of the three remaining Baghdad neighborhoods to still have a partial curfew after last week's fighting.

* MOSUL - A suicide truck bomber targeting an Iraqi army checkpoint killed seven civilians and wounded 12 including three soldiers, west of Mosul, police said.

* BAGHDAD - Two bodies were found in Baghdad on Wednesday, police said.

* BAGHDAD - A mortar round wounded four people in the Mashtal neighborhood in eastern Baghdad, police said.

* KIRKUK - Gunmen opened fire on a car, killing an off-duty policeman in central Kirkuk, police said.

* KIRKUK - A bullet-riddled body was found in the trunk of a car in southern Kirkuk, police said.

MOSUL - Police said they found two bodies with gunshot wounds and signs of torture in Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad.

MOSUL - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol wounded eight people including four policemen in central Mosul, police said.

AL-BAAJ - Gunmen killed two off-duty policemen and a civilian when they opened fire on their car in the town of al-Baaj, about 100 km (60 miles) west of Mosul, said the town's mayor, Abdul Rahman al-Shimari.

NEAR DHULIUYA - Gunmen killed four people and kidnapped four others at a fake checkpoint near Dhuluiya, 70 km (45 miles) north of Baghdad. Those kidnapped included Sheikh Ali Dhaher, a tribal leader, said Lieutenant-Colonel Muhammad Jasim of the Dhuluiya police.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb exploded at a police checkpoint in the Qahira neighborhood in northern Baghdad, wounding three policemen, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb exploded in eastern Baghdad, killing two people and wounding three others including an Iraqi cameraman working for a local television station, police said.

MOSUL - A car bomb wounded three policeman in eastern Mosul, police said.  Continued...
