(Reuters) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy married Carla Bruni on Saturday at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

Below are some facts about Sarkozy's relationships:

** His first marriage, in 1982, was to Marie-Dominique Culioli, with whom he has two sons, Pierre and Jean.

** He met his second wife, Cecilia, when, as mayor of the chic Paris suburb of Neuilly, he presided over her marriage to the French entertainer Jacques Martin. Sarkozy and his then-wife became the couple's friends. In 1996 he married Cecilia, with whom he has a son, Louis.

** Sarkozy spoke in interviews of his love for Cecilia and the couple posed for photographs in glossy magazines. But in 2005 they separated briefly, and she had a relationship with an advertising executive. There were also rumors that he had had a relationship with a journalist.

** The couple reunited in 2006, but Cecilia made relatively few public appearances during her husband's election campaign last year. The couple divorced last October.

** Sarkozy surprised the French public by appearing with Bruni and her relatives at the Disneyland resort near Paris in December, at the end of a week when he had been heavily criticized by rights groups and the opposition for inviting Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to Paris. He also took her on holiday to Egypt.
