(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 5 p.m. EDT on Thursday.

* BAGHDAD - An airman from multinational forces in Baghdad was killed in a bomb attack in central Baghdad on Thursday, the U.S.-led forces said in a statement.

SAMARA - A road side bomb struck a police patrol near the Askariya shrine in central Samara, 100 km (62 miles) north of Baghdad, killing five policemen, police said.

MAHMUDIYA - A road side bomb struck a U.S.-backed neighborhood patrol in Mahmudiya, 30 km (20 miles) south of Baghdad killing one and wounding two others, police said.

SAMARA - The U.S. military said in a statement that its forces fought and killed four militants on Wednesday east of Samara.

MOSUL - The U.S. military said in a statement that its forces captured six suspects on Wednesday in Mosul and other parts of Nineveh province.

HILLA - U.S. forces said they clashed with gunmen in the southern Iraqi city of Hilla and called in a helicopter strike after they came under fire while conducting an arrest operation. Iraqi police and hospital sources said six people were killed including 4 policemen and 15 others were wounded in the clashes.

* BASRA - U.S. forces said they killed two gunmen and destroyed a house with an air strike late on Wednesday in Basra. Iraqi police said three people were killed in the strike and three others were seriously wounded.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded in the Harthiya district of western Baghdad, killing three people and wounding 10 others, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb exploded in Qahtan Square of western Baghdad wounding 2 civilians, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb exploded near a restaurant in western Baghdad wounding a traffic policeman, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb struck street cleaners in Sinaa Street, east-central Baghdad, wounding 4 cleaners, police said.

SALMAN PAK - The U.S. military said it detained a high-value al-Qaeda leader in Salman Pak, 65 km (40 miles) southeast of Baghdad.

BASRA - Iraqi security forces arrested Yusuf al-Mawsawi, head of the Tharallah Shi'ite religious party, in an overnight operation in the al-Maqal area of northeast Basra, said Baqir al-Jabiri, an official in the party.
