Olmert says fuel-starved Gazans can walk

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said on Monday that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip might have to go without Israeli-supplied petrol for their cars as long as militants continue to fire rockets across the border.

"As far as I'm concerned, all the residents of Gaza can walk and have no fuel for their cars, because they have a murderous terrorist regime that doesn't allow people in the south of Israel to live in peace," Olmert said in broadcast remarks.

Israel has closed its border crossings with the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, cutting fuel supplies to the territory's main power plant and petrol stations. The United Nations and the European Union have urged Israel to restore the flow of fuel.
