BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union's enlargement chief said on Monday that the arrest of top Bosnian Serb warcrimes fugitive Radovan Karadzic was a "milestone" and very important for Serbia's efforts to join the European Union.

"This is certainly a milestone in Serbia's cooperation with the international criminal tribunal on the former Yugoslavia. It proves the determination of the new government to achieve full cooperation with the tribunal," Olli Rehn told Reuters.

"It is very important for Serbia's European aspirations," Rehn said, noting he would discuss the next steps in ties with Belgrade with EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels on Tuesday and with Serbia's visiting foreign minister.
