FACTBOX: The Dalai Lama's foreign hosts

(Reuters) - The Dalai Lama, visiting Britain, will meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Friday at the London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams.

He said his visit to London was "non political" and he will give lectures in London, Nottingham and Oxford. The Dalai Lama has made at least a dozen foreign trips in the last year. Here are some highlights.

AUSTRALIA:

-- The Dalai Lama met then-Prime Minister John Howard and his future successor, Labor Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd.

NORTHERN IRELAND:

-- The Dalai Lama visited Londonderry in July to take part in the International Conference on Children's Rights.

PORTUGAL:

-- The Dalai Lama gave a religious teaching in Lisbon in September. He met Jaime Gama, president of the parliament.

GERMANY:

-- Chancellor Angela Merkel met the Dalai Lama in September at the Chancellery in Berlin for what her spokesman said were "private, informal talks".

USA:

-- In October, he went to Washington to receive the Congressional Gold Medal and hold talks with President George W. Bush.

CANADA:

-- In October, Prime Minister Stephen Harper hosted the spiritual leader in parliament and presented him with a maple-leaf scarf.
