TBILISI (Reuters) - Up to 10 Georgian peacekeepers and civilians were killed in clashes with separatists in breakaway South Ossetia on Thursday, the Georgian interior ministry said.

The two sides ceased fighting and agreed to meet for talks on Friday, after several days of clashes raised fears of all-out war in the Caucasus.

"Up to 10 peaceful civilians and peacekeepers were killed in shoot-outs," Interior Ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili told Reuters.
