GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters) - Four men armed with knives attacked and killed an American man and injured his wife while the couple vacationed on their yacht on a Guatemalan lake, investigators said on Monday.

Police were searching for the men and were investigating whether the attack, which happened on Saturday night, was a robbery, the local public prosecutor's office said in a statement.

"The victims were inside their yacht. The men boarded and attacked," the office said.

Daniel Perry Dryden, 66, died on the scene while his wife, Nancy Dryden, 67, was hospitalized. The yacht was docked in Rio Dulce, a town on Guatemala's Lake Izabal that is a haven for American boaters.

Guatemala has one of the highest murder rates in Latin America.
