BANGKOK (Reuters) - At least one person was killed and 34 hurt, four critically, in clashes on Tuesday between pro- and anti-government demonstrators in Bangkok, a Thai health ministry official said.

Dr. Petchpong Kamjornkijjakarn, head of Bangkok's emergency unit, told TPBS TV two people had suffered gunshot wounds during the skirmishes near Government House, occupied by protesters demanding Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej resign.

He could not confirm reports that three people had been killed in the worst violence since the anti-government campaign began in May.
