STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - The Swedish Foreign Ministry said Wednesday it had been informed that a Swedish citizen had been killed by U.S. forces in Iraq.

A spokeswoman said the ministry was seeking more information about the circumstances surrounding the man's death and that authorities had so far been unable to contact members of his family, who were thought to be abroad.

"We have received information that a Swedish citizen has been killed by U.S. forces in Iraq," the spokeswoman said. It was not immediately clear why the Swede was in Iraq and the spokeswoman had no other details.
