WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States could slap new sanctions or reimpose old ones on North Korea if it fails to live up to its obligation to disclose details and abandon its nuclear program, a U.S. official said on Thursday.

"To the extent applicable and to the extent we can do it legally, we would re-impose past sanctions," said U.S. President George W. Bush's national security adviser Stephen Hadley. "We would also have the option to get additional sanctions but it again would not just be the United States, it would be all the countries of the six-party talks."
