SAfrica's Mbeki sees no changes to inflation targeting
PRETORIA (Reuters) - South African President Thabo Mbeki said on Sunday that his government had not discussed making changes to inflation targeting strategy or its policy of running budget surpluses.
"There has not been any view in government that we need to change that ... targeting," Mbeki said in briefing in Pretoria.
He added that his government, under pressure to shield the poor and workers from a sharp rise in food and fuel prices and the impact of rising interest rates, said there was no need to move away from the policy of running budget surpluses.
