Tunisia govt decides to lift party bans -ministers

TUNIS, Jan 20 (Reuters) - Tunisia’s government has decided to grant recognition to all banned political groups and adopt an amnesty for all political prisoners, ministers said after a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

Higher Education Minister Ahmed Ibrahim said the cabinet was in agreement about a general amnesty for all those jailed for their political convictions.

Asked if the government had also decided to lift bans on political groups, including the Islamist Ennahda movement, Youth Minister Mohamed Aloulou said: “We will recognise all the political movements.” (Reporting by Tarek Amara; Writing by Christian Lowe; Editing by Louise Ireland)
