FACTBOX: Security developments in Afghanistan, March 23

(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan by 0930 GMT (5:30 a.m. EDT) on Monday:

KANDAHAR - Eight policemen were killed in an attack by Taliban insurgents on a police patrol in Spin Boldak district, about 470 km (290 miles) southwest of Kabul, a senior police officer told Reuters.

KHOST - Afghan and U.S.-led forces detained three suspected militants in Sabari district, about 120 km (85 miles) southeast of Kabul, the U.S. military said in a statement. The suspects were detained during a raid to disrupt a bomb-making network.

HELMAND - Six insurgents, including their commander, were killed while planting a roadside bomb in Garmsir district, about 605 km (375 miles) southwest of Kabul, on Sunday, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

SOUTHERN AFGHANISTAN - Two soldiers from the NATO-led force were killed in a province of south Afghanistan on Sunday, the alliance said in a statement, without giving further details.

HELMAND - NATO-led troops killed an insurgent leader along with nine of his associates near Kajaki district, about 475 km (295 miles) southwest of Kabul, on Saturday, the alliance said.

KANDAHAR - A civilian contractor was killed and six others were wounded after a rocket attack on Kandahar Airfield, about 450 km (270 miles) southwest of Kabul, on Friday, NATO-led forces said in a statement. It said it was the first death caused by a rocket attack at the airfield. Five insurgents were captured immediately after the incident.
