NEW YORK Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder has agreed to a club-record $15.5 million, one-year contract, Major League Baseball's official website said Tuesday.
The deal, which allowed the Brewers to avoid arbitration, tops by $2 million what the Brewers have agreed to pay newly acquired pitcher Zack Greinke, the website (www.mlb.com) said.
"It's a big number. We're expecting Prince to go out there and have a big year," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told the website.
Fielder earned $10.5 million in 2010 while batting .261 with 32 home runs and 83 runs batted in.
The Brewers also signed left-hander Manny Parra to a one-year contract worth $1.2 million. Parra posted a 3-10 record in 2010.
