LOS ANGELES The Primetime Emmy awards were handed out on Sunday, honoring the best of U.S. television.
Following are key quotes from winners, and the three-hour ceremony broadcast live in the United States;
"This whole comedy world is a new terrain for me. The women I was up against are hysterical comedians. I'm literally dumbfounded by the events of the evening." Best comedy actress Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie")
"It's like having a great meal to do the show. Then to be awarded an Emmy is a beautiful flambe dessert. I feel gluttonous. It's more than I can take in. I feel like I'm gonna become a diabetic." Best drama actor Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") on his third straight win.
"You think you don't have a chance in hell in winning after five times. It's always a gift and a surprise to be invited to the party....Today, I'm beyond my wildest dreams." Kyra Sedgwick, best drama actress ("The Closer").
"(Creator Vince Gilligan) was gonna kill me off in the first season. Hopefully this will give me some longevity on the show." Aaron Paul, best drama supporting actor ("Breaking Bad")
"I didn't have a lot of designers offering me dresses but I think that will change now." Archie Panjabi, best supporting actress in a drama ("The Good Wife")
"I don't think I ever worked harder on a performance. I don't think I've ever been as inspired by a character. I was deeply moved by Temple's courage and resourcefulness. She's very pioneering. I don't expect to have another opportunity like this any time soon." Claire Danes, best actress in a mini-series or movie ("Temple Grandin")
"We tried to make the show very real and relatable. The show has embraced emotion. Emotion in comedy has sort of gone out of vogue, so maybe people were hungry for it a little bit. I think people genuinely wanted to feel good after watching a comedy." Steve Levitan, executive producer of "Modern Family" winner for best comedy series.
"This is really incredible. All I wanted to be was a clown in the circus when I was a kid growing up." Eric Stonestreet, best supporting actor in a comedy ("Modern Family")
"I've always been a very big fan of 'The Big Bang'". Sofia Vergara, comedy award presenter.
"This is outlandish!" Jane Lynch, best supporting comedy actress ("Glee").
"It's embarrassing because you don't want to be rewarded for doing what you're supposed to do...It's a very kind thing, so you accept it. But it's very hard to take." George Clooney, Bob Hope Humanitarian Award recipient.
"'Glee' is about the importance of arts education so I would like to dedicate this to all my teachers who taught me to sing and finger-paint." Ryan Murphy, best comedy directing ("Glee")
"This is the most ridiculous thing...I'm not funny!". Edie Falco, best comedy actress ("Nurse Jackie")
"We can't believe we are here. We want to thank the (Television) Academy for recognizing us again," "Mad Men" creator and best drama series winner Matthew Weiner.
"Jack Kevorkian, I'm so grateful you're my friend, but I'm even more grateful that you're not my physician." Adam Mazer, best writing for mini-series or movie ("You Don't Know Jack")
"There's no one scary here, really. I've seen people here cry when they break a fingernail." Ricky Gervais, presenter.
