CHICAGO (Reuters) - Three-term Illinois Democratic Congresswoman Melissa Bean has conceded the election to her Republican challenger Joe Walsh, a campaign spokeswoman said on Wednesday.
Bean called Walsh on Tuesday night to concede the race to represent the Illinois 8th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, the spokeswoman said.
The election in the district in Chicago’s northern suburbs, decided by a narrow margin of about 300 votes, was one of seven House races still pending early this week and so close they hinged on the last few absentee votes to be counted or possible recounts.
Walsh had support from the conservative Tea Party Movement, which helped sweep Republicans into power in the House in the November 2 mid-term election with a net gain of more than 60 seats.
