Ouattara orders closure of Ivorian borders

ABIDJAN (Reuters) - Presidential claimant Alassane Ouattara’s government has ordered the closure of Ivory Coast’s land, air and sea borders until further notice, according to an Interior Ministry statement seen by Reuters on Thursday.

Ouattara’s government previously ordered an overnight curfew and two sources said forces loyal to Laurent Gbagbo, Ouattara’s rival, had ceded control of Abidjan’s airport to United Nations peacekeepers.

Pro-Ouattara forces are fighting with forces loyal to Gbagbo in the main city of Abidjan after they swept south in a bid to oust Gbagbo, who refused to concede a November election.
