TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's opposition Liberal Democratic Party secured a majority in the powerful lower house of parliament in a national election on Sunday, local television reported.

The conservative LDP, which had been forecast to win a majority by exit polls released when voting ended on Sunday evening, will return to power after being defeated by the Democratic Party of Japan three years ago.
