Gold extends gains, hits new all-time high

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Gold hit an fresh record high early in Asia on Wednesday as investors scrambled for a safe haven from sliding stock markets, fears of a slowdown the global economy and renewed debt tensions in the euro zone.

Gold hit a high of US$1,661.14 an ounce in early Asia, having surged over 2.5 percent on Tuesday in its biggest one-day percentage rise since November.
