MEXICO PRESIDENT FELIPE CALDERON
"We are concerned with those (commitments) directed at providing resources to re-establish international credit, in particular in developing countries, where credit and investment has been considerably reduced as a result of the current crisis...
"We reiterate our concern given the presence of protectionism in those developed countries that will put obstacles for the possibilities of an economic recovery ... we find the urgency of avoiding protectionist measures that would weaken even more the position of the developing economies and that will extend and delay the very necessary economic recovery at an international level....
We reiterate the relevance of moving forward in the negotiations regarding climate change to the success of the Copenhagen summit at the end of this year...The member countries of the Group of Five reiterate our commitment to shared yet differentiated responsibilities in order to face this global problem"
PRIME MINISTER OF REPUBLIC OF INDIA MANMOHAN SINGH
"We will stress tomorrow the importance of maintaining adequate flow of finance to the developing countries and also of keeping markets open by resisting protectionist pressures"
BRITISH PRIME MINISTER GORDON BROWN
On climate change: "The world will recognise that today in Italy we have laid the foundations for a Copenhagen deal that is ambitious fair and effective.
"We accept the scientific evidence and I believe most countries are ready to accept that evidence.
"If tomorrow we get an agreement that the scientific evidence is telling us that there is a limit beyond which we cannot go -- that will be real progress because it will be the first time all countries have agreed that."
On the economy: "From talking to people around the table, everybody agrees with this language and everybody agrees also we've got to be vigilant. There are warning signals about the global economy that we cannot afford to ignore.
"In September when we meet at Pittsburgh as a G20 we will have a clear agreement on the strategy for global growth." Continued...
