NEW YORK, July 9 (Reuters) - UBS senior currency strategist Benedikt Germanier has left the firm, UBS spokesperson Kelly Smith told Reuters on Thursday.

Smith declined to comment on the reason for his resignation but sources familiar with the matter told Reuters Germanier had resigned last week after deciding to take an opportunity with a firm outside the financial industry in Switzerland.

Germanier had been with the firm since May 2003. (Reporting by Wanfeng Zhou; Editing by James Dalgleish)
