NEW YORK, Dec 3 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks rose for a second day on Wednesday in choppy trading as shares of Coke and other companies that hold up well in a recession gained following disappointing economic data and corporate outlooks.

* Coca-Cola (KO.N), the soft-drink maker, rose more than 4 percent, making it the top boost to the Dow. Fast food chain McDonald's was another standout, rising nearly 3 percent.

* Large-cap biotechnology stocks, also seen as defensive hedge against the weakening economy, were another hot spot. (Reporting by Deepa Seetharaman; Editing by Kenneth Barry)
