US STOCKS SNAPSHOT-Wall St turns positive on tech gains

NEW YORK, Dec 12 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks turned positive on Friday on gains in big-cap technology stocks and optimism that the White House or the U.S Treasury would come through with an aid package for U.S. automakers.

* Shares of General Motors GM.N were flat while Ford rose(F.N) after the White House said it was considering tapping the $700 billion financial industry bailout fund to prevent a potential collapse of automakers.

*The Nasdaq rose 1 percent on gains in technology stocks, including iPhone maker Apple Inc (AAPL.O), up 1.8 percent ao $96.74, and Qualcomm (QCOM.O), up 4 percent at $33.90.

* The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was up 5.97 points, or 0.07 percent, at 8,571.06. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was up 0.11 of a point, or 0.01 percent, at 873.70.
