US STOCKS-Nasdaq briefly positive as oil drops further

NEW YORK, July 22 (Reuters) - The Nasdaq briefly turned positive on Tuesday while the broader U.S. stock market added to gains after U.S. crude oil prices fell more than $5 a barrel, offsetting disappointing outlooks from technology bellwethers, including Apple (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz).

The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI rose 45.76 points, or 0.40 percent, to 11,513.10, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX edged up 1.89 points, or 0.15 percent, to 1,261.89. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was down 3.56 points, or 0.16 percent, at 2,275.97, after rising as much as 0.2 percent earlier to a session high at 2,280.08.
