NEW YORK Dec 17 The Alberta grid operator
expects TransAlta Corp (TA.TO)/Capital Power's (CPX.TO)
450-megawatt Unit 3 at the Keephills coal-fired plant in
Alberta to enter service in February.
TransAlta and Capital Power are equal partners in the C$1.6
billion project, with Capital Power responsible for
TransAlta said on its website that upon completion it would
operate the facility with each partner dispatching and
marketing their share of the power output.
The plant uses supercritical boiler technology with higher
boiling temperatures and pressure, making the plant more
efficient than conventional coal plants.
Construction started in February 2007 and has created up to
1,000 construction jobs, TransAlta said.
