KABUL (Reuters) - A soldier from the NATO-led force in Afghanistan was killed during an operation in a province near the Pakistan border on Friday, the force said.

The alliance did not identify the soldier who was killed in the southeastern province of Paktia or give details of the operation.

Violence in Afghanistan has surged since 2006, the bloodiest period since the Taliban's removal from power in 2001.
