ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A Pakistani army helicopter crashed in South Waziristan on Wednesday, killing eight military personnel, including the general in charge of operations against Taliban fighters in the tribal region, a military spokesman said.

Several senior officers, including two brigadiers, were killed along with Major-General Javed Sultan, commander of forces in the Kohat region, which South Waziristan falls under.

"It was an accident," according to the spokesman. "Initial investigations suggest it was caused by a technical fault."
