MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippine coastguard was searching on Monday for 28 Chinese fishermen missing after their ship sank off the northwestern coast, an official said.

A coastguard vessel with a medical team and rescue swimmers was dispatched on Sunday night after receiving a report from Chinese authorities that the "Jinshan" had sunk with 28 crew on board.

"Our initial information showed it was passing through Cape Bojeador near the lighthouse when it developed problems," coastguard spokesman Armando Balilo said in an interview with local radio.
