Official results of Pakistan's February 18 election
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan's Election Commission announced the completed results of the February 18 parliamentary election on Friday.
The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of assassinated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto took the most seats, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) led by Nawaz Sharif, another former premier, and the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) backed by President Pervez Musharraf.
Musharraf is expected to convene the new parliament soon and invite the PPP to form a coalition government with the support of the PML (Nawaz) and the Awami National Party, an ethnic Pashtun nationalist group from the North West Frontier Province.
Here are the positions of political parties in the new National Assembly compared with the number of the seats held after the 2002 vote.
