Australian PM Howard set to call election
CANBERRA (Reuters) - Australian Prime Minister John Howard visited Government House on Sunday, where he was widely expected to be seeking permission to call a national election.
Given the minimum 33-day election period, the visit to Governor-General Michael Jeffery points to an election around November 24. Howard is seeking a fifth term after 11 years in power, but remains well behind in opinion polls.
