TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Finance Minister Fukushiro Nukaga will not run in a ruling party leadership election that will effectively choose the country's next prime minister, Kyodo news agency reported on Friday.

Another candidate, former chief cabinet secretary Yasuo Fukuda, 71, said Nukaga would instead support his bid for leadership in the party's September 23 party poll.

The LDP is scrambling to find a new leader after incumbent Shinzo Abe's shock resignation, weeks after a humiliating upper house election defeat.
