Hurricane Paloma becomes a "major" storm

MIAMI (Reuters) - Hurricane Paloma strengthened into a "major" Category 3 hurricane on Friday as it neared the British territory of the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean, U.S. forecasters said.

The storm's maximum sustained winds increased to 115 miles per hour (185 km per hour), the National Hurricane Center said.
