SADC says Angolan troops may be sent to DRC soon

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Angolan soldiers could be deployed to the Democratic Republic of the Congo soon to help stabilize the eastern part of the country, regional grouping SADC said on Sunday.

Southern African Development Community Executive Secretary Tomaz Salamao said after a summit of regional leaders that the block will send military experts to the DRC to assess the situation in coming days. Angola said last week it will not interfere.

Asked whether Angolan troops were already in the DRC, Salamao said: "No, but if required they will be on the ground soon subject to the report ... made by the military experts." (Reporting by Rebecca Harrison)
