NEW DELHI (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama called Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday to express his sympathy for the deaths in the attack by Islamist gunmen on Mumbai, a government spokesman said.

"The U.S. president-elect spoke to our prime minister for a while to express his condolences on the tragedy," the spokesman said.

On Wednesday, Obama joined world leaders in condemning the attack on India's financial capital that killed at least 155 people.
