Vale SA’s Vale Nova Caledonia Declares Major Force
Vale SA announced that Vale Nova Caledonia (VNC), the Company’s nickel operations in New Caledonia, in the South Pacific region, declared major force (FM) as of May 10, 2012 in shipments to a customer and a group of contracted suppliers. The FM declaration is due to an accident of the sulfuric acid plant. The employees were not affected and no environmental damage occurred. Additional information will be disclosed to the market after having carried out a technical evaluation of the impacts on the plant.
