Wednesday, 31 Oct 2012 12:15pm EDT

Aarhuskarlshamn AB (AAK) announced that its plant in Port Newark has been temporarily shut down since October 29, 2012 due to the Hurricane Sandy. As a result of the severe weather conditions the plant has no supply of electricity and parts of the plant are flooded. No employees have been injured. AAK’s initial assessment is that there is no damage to the plant however production needs to be closed for a short period in order to restore the site. The Company is working to limit the effects of the standstill and to resume full production as soon as possible. Production at the Oasis Foods plant has also been temporarily interrupted since October 29, 2012 as the plant has no supply of electricity. Minor parts of the site are water damaged. As soon as electricity has returned to the plant AAK expects production to be resumed within days. No employees have been injured. AAK will conduct a thorough evaluation as soon as the authorities allow further access to the currently restricted area in Port Newark. The Company expects to publish further information on the situation and on potential related costs when releasing the third quarter 2012 Interim report on November 7, 2012. AAK has insurance cover for the business interruption.
