Apple Inc:Apple Inc said on Sunday it is cleaning up its iOS App Store to remove malicious iPhone and iPad programs identified in the first large-scale attack on the popular mobile software outlet - Reuters.The company disclosed the effort after several cyber security firms reported finding a malicious program dubbed XcodeGhost that was embedded in hundreds of legitimate apps - Reuters.The hackers embedded the malicious code in these apps by convincing developers of legitimate software to use a tainted, counterfeit version of Apple's software for creating iOS and Mac apps, which is known as Xcode, Apple said - Reuters.  Full Article

Apple Inc:A U.S. judge on Sept.2 granted final approval to a $415 million settlement that ends a high profile lawsuit in which workers accused Apple, Google and two other Silicon Valley companies of conspiring to hold down salaries - Reuters.The plaintiffs alleged that Apple Inc, Google Inc , Intel Corp and Adobe Systems Inc agreed to avoid poaching each other's employees, thus limiting job mobility and, as a result, keeping a lid on salaries - Reuters.In a ruling on Sept.2, U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh in San Jose, California, found the deal was fair to the thousands of plaintiff workers in the class action - Reuters.Attorneys representing those workers had asked for about $81 million in fees - Reuters.However, Koh decided such an award would be an inappropriate "windfall" for the lawyers, and awarded about $40 million instead - Reuters.The antitrust class action lawsuit was filed in 2011 - Reuters.The case was based largely on emails in which Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, former Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt and some of their rivals detailed plans to avoid poaching each other's prized engineers - Reuters.  Full Article

Apple Inc:Apple Inc patents covering the "slide to unlock" feature on smartphones are invalid, Germany's highest appeals court ruled on Aug.25, reaffirming a 2013 decision rejecting the U.S. company's claims by a lower court- Reuters.The ruling by the Federal Court of Appeals in Karlsruhe covers one of the Apple iPhone's most popular defining features, of which makers of rival Android-based phones have developed their own versions.In a statement, the appeals court said it confirmed a ruling by the lower Federal Patent Court that cancelled Apple's German patent, based on the technique's similarity to a phone released by Swedish company Neonode Inc a year before the iPhone's 2007 launch.The Neonode N1 had substantially similar technical features, the patent court had found.It ruled Apple's easier-to-use interface was not in itself patentable.Motorola Mobility, at the time a unit of Google Inc but now owned by China's Lenovo Group Ltd, filed the original suit in a Munich court against the Apple user interface patent.  Full Article

Apple Inc:Says A divided federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld a judge's ruling that Apple Inc had conspired with five publishers to increase e-book prices, in a win for the U.S. Justice Department - Reuters.Says By a 2-1 vote, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed that the conspiracy violated federal antitrust law, and that the judge acted properly two years ago in imposing an injunction to prevent a recurrence.Says The ruling would force Apple to pay consumers $450 mln under a 2014 settlement of a class action with 33 state attorneys general and lawyers, unless it files another appeal and wins.SaysThe settlement was contingent on Apple's civil liability being upheld.  Full Article

Apple Inc:Says it was handed a mixed ruling by a U.S. appeals court in a intellectual property battle with Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, as a prior patent infringement verdict was upheld but a trademark finding that the iPhone's appearance could be protected was thrown out - Reuters.That means up to 40 pct of a $930 million verdict which had been won by Apple must be reconsidered.In the ruling, the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. upheld patent infringement violations including one which protects the shape and color of its iPhone as well as the damages awarded for those violations.The appeals court further muddied the waters for Apple by ordering the court in San Jose to reconsider the $382 million portion awarded for trade dress dilution.  Full Article
