Agence France Presse reported that employees of Alcatel Lucent SA blocked access to the Company's factory in Ormes, near Orleans, to protest against the planned sale of the plant. Around 120 workers (out of a total staff of 280) gathered outside the factory and refused to let vehicles enter. It was possible to enter on foot, but in spite of this only approximately 20 workers were at their posts on October 10, 2013, according to trade unions. Alcatel Lucent SA also plans to sell its factory in Orvault (Loire-Atlantique). The employees of this plant went on strike on October 9, 2013, but returned to work the following day. Workers fear the plant will simply be closed, rather than sold. Alcatel Lucent SA announced a plan to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide on October 8, 2013.
