Alcatel Lucent SA announced that it is providing services to Argentinean state-owned telecommunications provider, ARSAT relating to the deployment of a nationwide 100 gigabit per second (100G) fiber optic network that will enable high capacity data communications over two routes – one between the capital, Buenos Aires in the east and Mendoza in the west, and a second connecting Río Gallegos and Ushuaia in the south, crossing the Magellan Strait. Alcatel Lucent SA's LGS Innovations announced that it has been selected for a multiple-award blanket purchase agreement (BPA) by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to expand and improve its wireless local area network (WLAN) infrastructure. The BPA was awarded under the GSA Schedule 70 vehicle and has a maximum value of USD 2.9 million over three years. Under the terms of the BPA, and when selected for individual project awards, LGS will provide program support for the expansion and improvement of the USGS' WLAN infrastructure including hardware, software, design services, installation, maintenance, repair, and warranty support at any of the USGS' approximately 200 sites. Alcatel Lucent SA and Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) consortium announced that they have signed a contract for the maintenance of more than 6,300 kilometers of the ACE system linking Africa to Portugal.
