Arkema forms joint venture in Saudi Arabia

Arkema SA:Says its filtration and adsorption subsidiary CECA and Saudi company Watan Industrial Investment have set up joint venture, majority-owned by Arkema, which will operate oilfield production chemicals blending plant and storage facility in Saudi Arabia.Under terms of this partnership, joint venture is about acquiring a storage and blending facility in Dammam, scheduled to become operative in second half of 2014.  Full Article

Arkema SA sets up joint venture with Jurong Chemical

Arkema SA:Announces the creation of Sunke, a joint venture in which Arkema will have a majority interest, comprising the assets of Jurong’s acrylic acid production site in Taixing opened in 2012.Says the Taixing site currently has a 320,000 t/year installed capacity, with two production lines.Says a third line with a 160,000 t/year capacity, due to start up in the first quarter of 2015, giving the plant a 480,000 t/year capacity.Says when the deal closes later in 2014, Arkema will have access to half of the site’s installed production, namely 160,000 t/year, for a $240 million investment.Says when the third line comes on stream, Arkema will have the option to access two thirds of the site’s acrylic acid installed capacity, namely 320,000 t/year, for an additional $235 million investment.Says it has a further option in the next 5 years to potentially acquire the remaining third of the acrylic acid production capacities, at a cost of $165 million.  Full Article

Arkema SA:Plans to divest its two South African subsidiaries, Arkema Resins Proprietary Limited and Harveys Composites Proprietary Limited to a South African company Ferro Industrial Products Proprietary Limited, specialized in the production and distribution of coatings and materials for composite markets.Says the two subsidiaries to be divested accounted for sales of about 45 million euros in 2012.Adds that the proposed divestment concerns 125 people, a production plant in Isipingo (Arkema Resins Proprietary Limited) near Durban, and five storage facilities (Harveys Composites Proprietary Limited).Says the propose divestment is subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities in South Africa and the deal is expected to be closed in the second quarter of 2014.  Full Article

Arkema SA Brings New China Coating Resins Plant Online

Arkema SA announced that it has officially started its new 60,000 MTY emulsion polymers facility on its Changshu platform. The plant, part of Arkema SA’s Coating Resins business unit, will serve customers in the Asia Pacific region.
