Barclays PLC:Wall Street's self-funded watchdog fined a unit of Barclays PLC $800,000 for violations related to how the bank reported stock trades over a more than two-year period, hampering the regulator's ability to properly monitor the market - Reuters.The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority said hat Barclays Capital did not properly update its electronic systems to comply with regulations from August 2009 that required that executing brokers report trades, as well as the name of the executing parties of the trades, to FINRA.Says consented to the fine without admitting or denying the allegations, and declined comment.  Full Article

Barclays PLC:A California water utility filed a class action lawsuit to recoup losses in the electric market that it blames on Barclays Bank Plc, which the U.S. government fined $453 million in 2013 for manipulating electricity prices.The lawsuit was filed by Merced Irrigation District, a state-recognized utility that oversees generation and distribution of electricity in Merced County, California.The utility alleges that the British bank, part of Barclays Plc, through its energy traders, entered into contracts that unreasonably restrained the markets for trading electricity and electricity-related contracts.  Full Article

Barclays PLC:Four banks pleaded guilty to trying to manipulate foreign exchange rates and, with two others, were fined nearly $6 billion in another settlement in a global probe - Reuters.Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Barclays Plc, UBS AG and Royal Bank of Scotland Plc were accused by U.S. and UK officials of brazenly cheating clients to boost their own profits using invitation-only chat rooms and coded language to coordinate their trades.All but UBS pleaded guilty to conspiring to manipulate the price of U.S. dollars and euros exchanged in the FX spot market.UBS pleaded guilty to a different charge.Bank of America Corp was fined but avoided a guilty plea over the actions of its traders in chatrooms.The misconduct occurred until 2013, after regulators started punishing banks for rigging the London interbank offered rate (Libor).The settlements stood out in part because the U.S. Department of Justice forced Citigroup's main banking unit Citicorp, and the parents of JPMorgan, Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland to plead guilty to U.S. criminal charges.Barclays was fined $2.4 billion.Its staff continued to engage in misleading sales practices despite a pledge by CEO Antony Jenkins to overhaul the bank's high-risk, high-reward culture.Barclays' sales staff would offer clients a different price to the one offered by the bank's traders, known as a 'mark-up' to boost profits.Barclays had set aside $3.2 billion to cover any forex-related settlement.  Full Article

Barclays PLC:Shareholders should reject the company's remuneration policy, as pay for Chief Executive Antony Jenkins is 'excessive', a shareholder advisory group said - Reuters.Pirc said shareholders should oppose Barclays' remuneration report at the annual meeting on April 23.More than a third of Barclays' investors didn't back its pay policy at a stormy shareholder meeting last year after the bank increased bonuses for 2013 despite profits falling.Pirc's grievance is over pay for Jenkins, who received 5.5 million pounds ($8.1 million) last year, including a salary of 1.1 million and the same in bonus.  Full Article
