Bayerische Motoren Werke AG:BMW AG is recalling its new flagship 7-series luxury limousine due to a potential air bag deployment issue, the company said on Thursday. - RTRS.Airbags in 26,000 cars produced before Dec. 11, 2015 may have a defective air bag control module, the company said, adding that there have been no known cases of faulty deployments."It is purely a precautionary measure," a BMW spokesman said, adding that so far 47,000 vehicles of its new 7-series have been produced.The supplier of the affected air bag parts to BMW was Continental AG CONG.DE. In a filing posted on the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday morning, BMW said the recall will affect 6,110 vehicles in the U.S. market.In the United States, affected vehicles are from the 2016 model year including 740Li, 750Li, and 750 Lxi.In Germany, 2,600 cars are impacted and in China 4,700 cars will be recalled, BMW said. In the United States, owners will receive letters in May about the recall. The fix, for which customers will not be charged, will take up to four hours at a dealership.  Full Article

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG:BMW AG will get five more months to acquire Takata air bag replacement parts for a massive recall because tests showed some of the substitute inflators may also be defective, the U.S. auto safety agency said on Thursday. - RTRS.The deadline for the German automaker was extended to Aug. 31 because a replacement driver-side air bag inflator made by a supplier other than Takata failed during testing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said."NHTSA's priority continues to be ensuring that unsafe air bag inflators are replaced with safe ones," the agency said in a statement. A BMW spokeswoman declined to comment.NHTSA said all automakers besides BMW have reported that they are on track to meet the original March 31 deadline under a agency order to supply enough replacement inflators for "priority one" vehicles, with the highest risk of ruptures.The agency set the deadline in early November. The consent order also set deadlines of Sept. 30 for automakers to have enough replacement parts for "priority two" vehicles, and Dec. 31 for "priority three" vehicles. NHTSA will delay those deadlines for BMW until 2017.The delays affect 420,000 recalled vehicles, including several types of BMW 3-series, 5-series and the X5, NHTSA said. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG:The three largest German automakers said they will recall 2.5 million vehicles in the United States equipped with Takata Corp air bags, the latest moves in a long-running safety crisis involving the Japanese automotive supplier - RTRS.BMW said it would recall 840,000 vehicles.The BMW recalls include one 2015 model.The recalls mark the latest expansion of a safety crisis over defective Takata air bags that began in 2009. Some 24 million U.S. vehicles involving about 28 million Takata air bag inflators have been recalled.The recalls by the German companies were limited to the U.S. market. Daimler, VW and BMW each said they are not aware of any air bag failures in their vehicles.  Full Article

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG:U.S. auto safety regulators said Tuesday that air bag maker Takata Corp 7312.T declared 5.1 million U.S. vehicles defective, as the company disclosed an 11th death could be linked to a faulty airbag - RTRS.Most of the vehicles mentioned in numerous previous recalls involving Takata air bags have been older models, but the new recalls include some 2014 models. - RTRS.The Japanese company said newer vehicles remain under "investigation and could be subject to recall at a later date." - RTRS.The newly released documents show that regulators may prod automakers to recall recent models. - RTRS.The automakers involved in the new Takata inflator recalls include Honda, BMW AG, Volkswagen AG's Volkswagen and Audi brands, Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz and Sprinter van brands, Mazda Motor Corp, and Saab AB - RTRS.Toyota Motor Corp 7203.T is listed by Takata as part of the new recall, but the company said all of its vehicles involved were recalled in 2015 - RTRS.NHTSA did not make clear how many, and which automakers were involved with recalls for 2014 models - RTRS.Honda has previously recalled about 6.28 million vehicles in the United States for air bag inflators, a Honda spokesman said. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG:BMW BMWG.DE is recalling its "Baby Racer" ride-on children's toy car because a sticker showing the brand's logo could be peeled off the steering wheel and choke toddlers, the carmaker said on Thursday. - RTRS.Although the sticker may come off only "in very rare cases", BMW has issued the recall order "to avoid any danger," it said. - RTRS.Owners of BMW's "Baby Racer III" model affected by the problem will be handed a new vehicle at their local dealership at no charge, the Munich-based luxury-car manufacturer said in a statement. - RTRS.The recall affects models assembled between May and December this year and may involve "several hundred" units in Germany, a spokesman said.
