Comcast Corp's NBCUniversal:Says acquisition of DreamWorks Animation.Under the terms of the agreement, DreamWorks Animation has an equity value of approximately $3.8 billion.Transaction is expected to close by the end of 2016.Agreement has been approved by the boards of directors of DreamWorks Animation and Comcast, and the controlling shareholder of DreamWorks Animation has approved the agreement by written consent.Following the completion of the transaction, DreamWorks Animation CEO and co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg will become Chairman of DreamWorks New Media.Says studio will become part of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.  Full Article

Comcast Corp:Announced today that it increased its dividend by 10.0% to $1.10 per share on an annualized basis.Declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.275 a share on the company's common stock, payable on April 27, 2016 to shareholders of record as of the close of business on April 6, 2016.In addition, Comcast announced that its Board of Directors has increased its stock repurchase program authorization to $10.0 billion.  Full Article

Comcast Corp:Major League Baseball said it had settled a lawsuit filed against it by fans unhappy about restrictions on watching their favorite teams play on TV. - RTRS."We can confirm that a settlement of the Garber case has been reached. Because the process remains ongoing, it is not appropriate to comment further at this time," Major League Baseball said in a statement posted on its website - RTRS.At issue were agreements that limit where certain games can be broadcast which consumers said resulted in anticompetitive blackouts that forced them to pay more to see matches - RTRS.Trial in the case had been scheduled to begin on Tuesday, according to the court docket. Comcast Corp:NBCUniversal, Disney and 4 other U.S. studios together with Sky UK on Monday rebuffed EU charges of anti-competitive movie-licensing deals in a crucial hearing ahead of a decision later this year - RTRS.The companies' defence at a 3-day closed-door hearing came six months after the European Commission accused them of preventing consumers outside Britain and Ireland from accessing films and other content broadcast by the British pay-TV group - RTRS.Clauses in the deals also prevent other broadcasters from making their pay-TV services available in the UK and Ireland - RTRS.The accusations by the EU antitrust enforcer came amid a campaign to end restrictions hindering cross-border trade, aimed at boosting e-commerce and growth in the 28-country bloc - RTRS.Defenders of territorial licensing, however, say that the system preserves the region's cultural diversity and safeguards fair payment for artists and content providers - RTRS.Other Hollywood studios involved in the case are Paramount Pictures, part of Viacom, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Brothers - RTRS.Sky UK and the studios face fines up to 10% of their global turnover if found guilty of breaching EU rules - RTRS.Other participants included Canal Plus, German media ProSieben, Telefonica's DTS unit, the European Producers Club, British Film Institute, Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television, French cinema producers body APC and Italy's cinema and audiovisual group Anica - RTRS.  Full Article

Comcast Corp:Comcast Corp. has agreed to pay nearly $26 million to settle a California investigation into improperly disposing hazardous waste and failing to shred discarded customer records - PHILAI.California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris said that the Philadelpia cable giant's "careless and unlawful hazardous waste disposal practices jeopardized the health and environmental well-being of California communities and exposed their customers to the threat of identity theft." - PHILAI.The majority of the hazardous waste was electronic equipment: remote controls, splitters, routers, modems, amplifiers, and power adapters. - PHILAI.Comcast, which settled the case without admitting wrongdoing, has agreed to improve its practices - PHILAI.It dispatched the waste to landfills not authorized to receive it, or to recyclers not authorized to handle it, California officials said. - PHILAI.The customer records included names, addresses and phone numbers. - PHILAI.As part of the settlement -which was disclosed in California on Dec. 15 and must still be approved by a state court -Comcast said it would comply with state regulations and hire a firm that would certify that it shredded customer documents. - PHILAI.Comcast also consented to multiple independent audits of its waste-disposal and customer records practices in California - PHILAI.Moyer said that Comcast has not been fined for electronic waste in any other state - PHILAI.  Full Article

Comcast Corp:Three men were arrested on Monday for engaging in a wide-ranging hacking and spamming scheme that targeted personal information of 60 million people including Comcast customers, U.S. prosecutors announced Tuesday - RTRS.Timothy Livingston, 30, Tomasz Chmielarz, 32, and Devin McArthur, 27, were named in an indictment filed in federal court in Newark, New Jersey that charged them with conspiracy to commit fraud and related activity among other offenses. - RTRS.Prosecutors said Livingston, a Boca Raton, Florida, resident, was the leader of a series of computer hacking and illegal spamming schemes that targeted multiple companies and generated illegal profits exceeding $2 million - RTRS.The three men were arrested at their respective residences on Tuesday morning, a spokesman for U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman in New Jersey said - RTRS.The company was not identified by name in court papers. But McArthur's LinkedIn page says he worked at Comcast Corp CMCSA.O during the period in question. Comcast Corp:The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating whether Comcast Corp, the biggest U.S. cable TV provider, is hindering competition in cable advertising sales, a source told Reuters - RTRS.The department's Antitrust Division has sent documents known as civil investigative demands to video distribution companies with questions about whether Comcast was seeking to dominate the "spot" cable ad sales business in areas where Comcast offers service, said the source - RTRS.The probe was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.The issue was raised in the fight over whether Comcast would be allowed to buy Time Warner Cable, a deal that eventually fell apart because of antitrust concerns - RTRS.At that time, Viamedia, an independent spot ad seller, estimated the spot cable advertising market was worth $5.4 billion nationally - RTRS.Viamedia said then that Comcast, in addition to being a cable company, dominated so-called Interconnects in many areas and used them to exclude Viamedia and other independents from some markets - RTRS.These Interconnects are used by local advertisers, like car dealers, to buy ad time on cable stations - RTRS.  Full Article
