Chevron Corp. Could Face $51 Million In Fines For Brazil Oil Spill-DJ

Dow Jones reported that Chevron Corp. faces at least BRL90 million ($51 million) in fines and reparations for its role in an oil spill at its Frade field offshore Brazil, according to the local Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper. According to the report, Chevron faces a maximum fine of BRL50 million from environmental regulator Ibama. In addition, National Petroleum Agency (ANP), could enforce a fine of at least BRL30 million. Chevron could be forced to pay reparations of at least BRL10 million to fishermen affected by the spill.
