Walt Disney Co:Authorities are cracking down on hazardous toys and according to recently released statistics, Dubai Municipality has banned 50 toy brands in the first seven months of 2015. - GULNEW.The toys either contained objects that were either sharp or small enough to be ingested, made up of flammable materials, or did not have sufficient strength to withstand regular wear and tear.The report also showed that several cases of make-up targeted towards young girls were also classified as toys that failed to pass the municipality's inspections.which included the Small Twin Heart Make-Up Kit, made in China, which featured Disney's Frozen characters - as it contained sharp edges that, "may present an unreasonable risk of injury related to cuts and lacerations.".Other banned toys included in the list were magnetic letters manufactured in China, labelled as hazardous as it contained small pieces that were associated with the ingestion of strong magnets, in addition to a Halloween latex mask of a witch (made in Sri Lanka) that contained flammable materials.  Full Article

Walt Disney Co:The Dark Lord of the Sith could now be a danger to babies - HUFFPO.The Consumer Product Safety Commission on Tuesday posted a recall notice for Darth Vader infant bodysuits because of a choking hazard. - HUFFPO.The outfits, along with those bearing a Disneyland 60th anniversary design, were sold at Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Disney-themed cruise ships, the CPSC noted. Walt Disney Co:NBCUniversal, Disney and 4 other U.S. studios together with Sky UK on Monday rebuffed EU charges of anti-competitive movie-licensing deals in a crucial hearing ahead of a decision later this year - RTRS.The companies' defence at a 3-day closed-door hearing came six months after the European Commission accused them of preventing consumers outside Britain and Ireland from accessing films and other content broadcast by the British pay-TV group - RTRS.Clauses in the deals also prevent other broadcasters from making their pay-TV services available in the UK and Ireland - RTRS.The accusations by the EU antitrust enforcer came amid a campaign to end restrictions hindering cross-border trade, aimed at boosting e-commerce and growth in the 28-country bloc - RTRS.Defenders of territorial licensing, however, say that the system preserves the region's cultural diversity and safeguards fair payment for artists and content providers - RTRS.Other Hollywood studios involved in the case are Paramount Pictures, part of Viacom, Sony, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Brothers - RTRS.Sky UK and the studios face fines up to 10% of their global turnover if found guilty of breaching EU rules - RTRS.Other participants included Canal Plus, German media ProSieben, Telefonica's DTS unit, the European Producers Club, British Film Institute, Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television, French cinema producers body APC and Italy's cinema and audiovisual group Anica - RTRS.  Full Article
